What is the difference of 4 typs of NFC protocol?

NFC Forum Type 1 Tag: Type 1 tag is based on ISO14443A. Tags are read and re-write capable; users can configure the tag to become read-only. Memory availability is 96 Bytes or 512 Bytes; these tags are known as “Topaz”-tags.

NFC Forum Type 2 Tag: This type is based on ISO14443A. Tags are read and re-write capable; users can configure the tag to become read-only by setting a lock bit. Memory availability is 48 bytes or 192 Bytes; the brand name is NXP Mifare Ultralight or Ultralight C.

NFC Forum Type 3 Tag (“FeliCa”) is used typically in Japan and rarely used outside. We can supply these tags on request only.

NFC Forum Type 4 Tag: These tags are fully compatible with ISO14443A and B standards. Memory is typically 4 or 8KB. The brand is NXP Mifare DESFire.Mifare Classic with 1K or 4K memory. We usually recommend these chips as they have enough memory to store longer links or even vCards at a good price level. Access is based on read and write keys per sector.

There are many models of NFC phones by several device manufacturers running every mobile phone operating system except Apple iOS (for now); there are also many different NFC chip types. Unfortunately not every phone is compatible with every NFC chip. It's important when choosing an NFC chip that you understand the phones that your end-users will likely have. You must also understand the data that will be encoded on the NFC tags; the vast majority of people used NDEF NFC Data Exchange Format encoding.
